Ready to start the year out with some new or refined skills?

Join us for the WEA Education Support Professionals Conference on Professional Development!

We will have AM and PM sessions, as well as the ESP of the year and other ESP leaders from across the state.

The available courses are listed in the Course Descriptions section below. The full-day program begins at 8:30 AM with breakfast and concludes at 4:00 PM.

Course Description
Participants will engage in a range of trainings aimed at success in the classroom and their profession. At the conclusion of the symposium, participants emerge with new skills and information to apply at work and in their careers. Sessions include: Building Winning Teams Effective Comm Collaboration and Instruction, Supporting Students with Behaviors That Are Challenging, Assets, Strength, and Resilience of Immigrant Students, Embracing Diversity with True Colors, Educator Well-Being, What ESPs Can Do to Help Students Experiencing Homelessness, Communicating Effectively with Diverse Students and Families, Lunchroom Playground and Crossing Guards - Strategies for Success, Special Education and the Law for Paraeducators, Difficult Conversations With Parents and Educators

Course Objectives

*Participants will understand why the state, union, and districts must embed these expectations for educators so that students feel safe and ready to learn and staff feel safe and ready to instruct and support learning. *Participants will understand the connections between standards of practice and communicate effectively and participate in the team process. They will be able to demonstrate ability to apply feedback regarding student learning outcomes and/or personal performance. *Participants, taught by their peers, will be able to identify their own biases and fear, based on culture, history etc. so that they can choose the appropriate resources, and learning strategies for personal and professional growth in an area that they see needs to be bolstered for student and personal success. *Participants will gain tools for self-care and well-being as they work to assist in the development of a student's sense of social and community responsibility. *Participants will gain an understanding of common practices used by the various school districts to support student learning.
