WEA-Riverside UniServ Council is offering professional learning as part of the 2026 Sparks event in Vancouver.
Clock hours are being offered for the portions meeting Washington state clock hour standards. Story of Self This session introduces educators to the “Story of Self,” a method for using personal narrative to inspire connection, leadership, and collective action.
Participants explore how storytelling expresses values, builds trust, and strengthens efforts. Through guided exercises, they practice crafting and sharing stories that motivate others and clarify personal purpose.
Labor History -this labor history session provides an overview of key labor history events, policies, and movements that have shaped educators’ working conditions today. Participants examine how past struggles continue to impact schools, students, and the profession. Educators will reflect on how understanding this history can guide present-day efforts and improvements in their school communities.
Dealing with Difficult People – Managing Conflict This session equips educators with practical strategies for navigating challenging interactions with colleagues, students, and community members. Through scenarios and reflection, participants learn how to de escalate conflict, set boundaries, and communicate with clarity and empathy. The session emphasizes maintaining professional relationships while fostering positive, productive learning environments.
Educator Certification This session provides educators with up-to-date information on Washington’s certification requirements, renewal processes, and recent policy changes. Participants learn how to navigate OSPI eCertification, add endorsements, and understand pathways toward National Board Certification. The session empowers educators to plan their professional growth with confidence and clarity.
