This two-day course explores how teachers and ML paraeducators can work together to provide multilingual learners meaningful access to grade-level content. Participants will learn how to plan effective macro-scaffolds before instruction and use responsive micro-scaffolds during instruction. Through examples, discussion, and collaborative application, participants will develop practical strategies that preserve rigor, increase student participation, and promote language development and independence.

Course Description
This two-day course explores how teachers and ML paraeducators can work together to provide multilingual learners meaningful access to grade-level content. Participants will learn how to plan effective macro-scaffolds before instruction and use responsive micro-scaffolds during instruction. Through examples, discussion, and collaborative application, participants will develop practical strategies that preserve rigor, increase student participation, and promote language development and independence.Course Objectives
Day 1:
-Define meaningful access and connect it to educational equity.
-Identify barriers multilingual learners may encounter in grade-level instructions.
-Explain the purpose and characteristics of macro-scaffolding and describe the ML paraeducators role in planning and preparing scaffolds.
-Develop a collaborative macro-scaffolding plan for an upcoming lesson or unit.
Day 2:
-Explain the purpose and characteristics of micro-scaffolding and practice micro-scaffolds that preserve rigor and productive struggle.
-Recognize student cues that indicate a need for responsive support.
-Analyze the effectiveness of teacher and ML paraeducator moves.
-Plan coordinator teacher-para moves that promote participation, language development, and independence.
