In order to earn clock hours for NEA micro-credentials, you need to:

(1) Complete WEA micro-credential orientation to learn about the process and select a micro-credential. Complete orientation ONCE.

(2) Register for an NEA micro-credential https://nea.certificationbank.com/Washington/WEA/StackLibrary_WEA.aspx AND register for WEA clock hours for the specific NEA micro-credential you selected. (You are registering for WEA clock hours on this page.)

(3) Complete the WEA micro-credential workshop EVERY TIME you are working on a new micro-credential.

Multilingual Learners: Multilingual Learners 3: Advocating for Multilingual Learners (micro-credential) (Equity) (15 Clock Hours): In this micro-credential, the educator approaches multilingual education from a perspective of advocacy and understands the needs of multilingual learners. Culture and culturally relevant pedagogy play an important role in equitable education for multilingual learners. Through learning about these issues, educators can better advocate for ttheir students’ educational experiences.

Advocacy for multilingual learners can be described as deliberate action taken to work high-quality education and equitable educational opportunities. There are many different components to advocacy for multilingual learners including equitable access to content, equitable assessment opportunities, effective collaboration with families, and clear and transparent processes for identification and monitoring of multilingual learners.

Course Description
In this micro-credential, the educator approaches multilingual education from a perspective of advocacy and understands the needs of multilingual learners. Culture and culturally relevant pedagogy play an important role in equitable education for multilingual learners. Through learning about these issues, educators can better advocate for ttheir students’ educational experiences. Course Objectives

(1) The educator identifies the stages of second language acquisition of selected multilingual learners.

(2) The educator also monitors and analyzes student work to implement appropriate instructional strategies that match each student's second language acquisition stage.
