Course Description

This training helps educators integrate culturally responsive behavior interventions practices into their classroom. Participants build on concepts from earlier courses in the Culturally Responsive Classroom Management series to learn to implement behavior intervention strategies that respect all students. Participants will Investigate ways to promote positive classroom and social behavior development including understanding self and others regarding their preferences in communication styles and preferences. They will Identify strategies for implementing culturally responsive behavior interventions that address the underlying causes and functions of behavior.Adapt core principles of culturally responsive behavior intervention to meet the specific the needs of students.

Course Objectives

a. Identify the various communication styles that are represented in the classroom to develop ways to be responsive in and respectful of students’ communication needs. (Understanding Self and Others, Leading for Educational Equity)

b. Understand the value and impact of implementing student focus groups and finding strategies to respond to student needs through facilitating student focus groups and advocating for student voice. (Understanding Self and Others, Leading for Educational Equity, Learning Partnerships)

c. Understand the guiding principles for developing a Tier 1 culturally responsive behavior approach through a relational lens. (Leading for Educational Equity)

d. Understand Tier 1 strategies applicable to your context. (Leading for Educational Equity)
