Course Description
Research has identified promising practices that promote equitable student discipline systems. When educators build culturally responsive systems of prevention and intervention, better outcomes for students can be achieved. This course will explore effective discipline practices in the context of Washington's student discipline rules.

Course Objectives

• Identify the reasons for the 2018 & 2024 changes in Washington’s student discipline rules

• Effectively implement state discipline rules in the classroom and debunk misconceptions

•Increase awareness of:

o Prevention-based strategies that support student behavior

o Interventions that effectively support students not meeting behavior expectations

(PESB CCDEI Understanding Self & Others)

• Identify opportunities to strengthen building and district level support for student behavior

(PESB CCDEI Leading for Educational Equity)
