CRCM Mod 5: Classroom Exclusion develops an understanding of Tier 2 strategies to reduce educator reliance on exclusionary practices to manage student behavior. Washington State established new Emergency Rules on August 16, 2024, to establish expectations and requirements for districts in implementing and administering Student Discipline. This includes Washington’s expanded purpose and definitions around discipline and the use of classroom exclusions. The session will also clarify discretionary and non-discretionary discipline, and provide appropriate culturally responsive corrective actions.

Course Description

1. Identify school and classroom choices and actions that lead to same outcomes of inequity, exclusion and racism.
2. Identify strategies for implementing culturally responsive behavior interventions that address the underlying causes and functions of behavior.
3. Adapt core principles of culturally responsive behavior intervention to meet the specific needs of students.
4. Understand the guiding principles for developing a Tier 2 culturally responsive behavior approach
